Many mysteries of life have been solved now. Up until a week ago, clothes have been a mystery to me. I’ve sewn squares and triangles together for the last ten years of my life, but I’ve never sewn curves and hems.
This is the first shirt I have ever sewn, and if I had to guess, this pattern is exceedingly well written and perfect for a beginner.
It’s called the Linden Sweatshirt by Grainline Studio. The pattern comes with a long sleeve and short sleeved version. Really folks, this was a great experience for me. This was a quick project, and as surprising as it may sound, the project went really well.

Here are all the details.
Pattern: Linden Sweatshirt by Grainline Studio
(I purchased my pattern from Happy Sewing Co, but it’s out of stock there right now. BUT, she has a plethora of other great garment patterns.)
Shirt Fabric: Dusty Rose Organic French Terry from Knitfabric.com (Two yards actually allowed me to make two short sleeved shirts.)
Ribbing (for the neckline and hem): Dusty Rose Organic Rib Knit
Stretch Thread (for top stitch detail on the shirt): Wooly Nylon in Pale Pink (You can also get it on Amazon.)

I have lots of thoughts coming soon on sewing my own clothes. I learned a ton this time around. I learned how handy it is to have a serger. (I found one on Facebook Marketplace a while ago.) I didn’t know stretch thread existed before now, and I had no idea there was such a thing as a twin needle.
Even though I haven’t talked about it here, I purchased a new Juki TL-2010Q in the last year because my Singer Quantum 9960 just wasn’t cutting it anymore. Since my Singer had so much trouble quilting through bulky seams, I bought a workhorse of a Juki. And my Juki was completely worthless for sewing garments. 🙂
Just like all hobbies, sewing garments comes with new supplies and new techniques. I hesitated starting this project because it’s something I had never done before, but I’m glad I did it, and I already have a skirt planned for my next project!

Loos great!
Thank you Natalie!
