I don’t often buy an entire line of fabric, and I have never bought a full yard of every print of an entire line. First time for everything, I guess.

Though they are bright for me, I loved the colors when I started seeing Swedish Holiday show up in the pictures on Instagram. I initially bought only my favorites from the line. Then I returned to Etsy and purchased the others from the line that I didn’t get the first time around.

Mine came from Peony Pedal Quilts and Quilt Sandwich.

The fabrics are colorful, and colorful is not always easy for me. I have a hard time putting them together in my head. After letting the stack sit on the shelf for a bit, I decided to let go of perfection and start on a log cabin pattern. I bought one from Annabel Wrigley. It’s called Picnic in the Park. I had to decide to just start; not entirely sure where I was going.

I didn’t know if I’d love it, but I started anyway. Now that I’m ten blocks in, I’m still not sure that I’ll like the end result, but every quilt is a process, right?

You can kind of see the pattern. There are solids on one side and a patterned fabric on the opposite side. Both are paired with one of the wovens from the Swedish Holiday line.

I added a few coordinating Bella Solids from Pear Tree Market, and I chose a few Ruby Star prints that I felt would mix in well. When I purchased the Swedish Holiday fabrics, I had originally envisioned a quilt for our living room. As usual, though, I started gravitating toward playful and somewhat feminine. Maybe a little childish. I don’t know. Can a quilt with colorful hearts and tiny stars find a place in the living room, or should I have attempted a bit more sophistication?

I haven’t landed sophistication in a quilt yet, I don’t think.

Here are the additional prints I purchased to use in combination with the Swedish Holiday Fabrics:

Hearts in multi by Ruby Star Society
Hearts in shell by Ruby Star Society
Starry in natural by Ruby Star Society

I also pulled a pretty good stack of coordinates from some of the fabrics I already had. Now that I’ve started the quilt, though, I’m finding myself using fewer of these coordinates than I intended. It’s a little less scrappy, at this point, than this stack conveys.

My informal goal this time around is finishing about one block a day on average. If you come back here in about a year, you may be able to see the finished product. 🙂
