There are two new pillow covers in my Etsy Shop!
My husband was just looking at this pillow cover and said, “that pillow takes you back to your roots, doesn’t it?” He said it with a smile.
Low volume used to be my only avenue of creativity. I wanted such little saturation of color. I loved it. And I still do! But I have indeed veered a bit from my original means of scrappy patchwork. Prints with white backgrounds are still my most comfortable route of design. A few of these prints are newer, but some of them are my favorites that I’ve resisted using for a while.
The background fabric has been a staple for me for a while. I’m running low on it now! It’s Architextures by Carolyn Friedlander.
The apples are from Heather Ross’ Kinder line. The pink apples are getting harder to find, but there are a few shops on Etsy with some left. I may have to snag a bit more. It’s such a cute print.
The purple and yellow flowers are from Little Dolly by Elea Lutz. I can’t find any purple or yellow flowers left, but I found some pink ones here.
The cursive handwriting (it’s kind of hard to see) is Penmanship by Lori Holt. This has also been a favorite staple of mine for a while now. I’ve combined it with the architextures print I mentioned above time and time again.
The closed eyelashes is called 40 Winks by Dear Stella. It’s from their Luna line. There’s not a lot of that fabric around either!
Lots of favorite fabrics here! My finished pillow covers measure around 18 by 18 inches square. I’ve started stuffing them with the 20 inch down pillow forms from Ikea. They’re called the Fjadrar pillows, and they’re a perfect full fit. I believe they are $8 per pillow form from Ikea.
Here’s the second pillow heading to my Etsy Shop this weekend! It’s a very scrappy version of the log cabin quilt block.
Once I finish my eight (maybe nine) (maybe more??) other quilts in progress, I need to start a log cabin quilt! These blocks, while slow for me, are fun to make. They are the perfect solution to strips of fabric in the scrap bin.
I posted a tutorial a couple weeks ago about my log cabin pillow covers.
This one is hand quilted. I’ve been spending lots of time lately hand quilting a large quilt, and I’m enjoying the slow and steady of the process. I met a creative friend, Debbie, on Instagram a couple years ago, and she recently commented that the hand quilting makes a quilt legit. I loved that. Hand quilting has taken this creative process to a whole new level.
It takes all the deadlines and rushing out of the process because hand quilting is an intentional decision that this project will take time. Lots of time. Such a joy amidst a hurried world.
The above is my favorite view of the pillow. That fruit label fabric…I just love it. It’s a perfect scrappy addition to so many quilts.
All of my pillow covers are finished with a white zipper. This makes it easy to take the covers off for washing. The washing and drying will crinkle the fabric and give it a much softer or cuddly look.
I layer my pillows on couches and chairs in the living room. Nothing really coordinates, but I have layers upon layers of textures and hues of color. I don’t use a lot of geometrics, but You’ll find a wide variety of florals and prints.
If you enjoy scrappy and mismatched like myself, here the two are layered together. 🙂
Both can be found in my Etsy Shop.
