If you’ve been following along here since the new year, you’ve likely seen me linking to a ‘new to me’ Etsy Shop called Morgan Kelly Quilts.
She has a very small selection of fabric listed in her shop. It’s VERY curated, but it’s so gorgeous. If you are a bit like me and can become overwhelmed with too many fabric options, her little shop is relaxing and highly calming.
She also takes pictures of most of her fabrics, and I appreciate that so much as a shopper! I think the real pictures are so much more appealing than the electronic images provided by the fabric manufacturer.
I have been browsing her shop and keeping up with her new fabric arrivals on Instagram, and I recently saw her listing for the pink floral pictured below. It’s from Bonnie Christine’s line called Open Road for Art Gallery Fabrics.
I saw the pink floral and was immediately drawn to it. I loved the flowers. So of course I went searching for other fabrics in the Open Road line. I was not overly familiar with the line at the time, and I quickly found two other prints that caught my eye.
Many times when I purchase new fabrics, I have projects in mind, but the fabrics must wait in line until its turn. (Sometimes the fabrics must wait years. 🙂 )This Saturday morning, my husband graciously let me sit at my sewing table for a few hours. I made three pillow covers this morning, and I must say, I enjoy gawking at the three of these covers stacked in my bedroom right now. I’m tempted to purchase some additional yardage for a quilt for our soon to be born little girl.
It was so fun cutting into fabric I had just received in the mail the day before. I like the fabric more in person than I did when I purchased it online.
Because I wanted to order three prints from the Open Road line, I went searching for a shop on Etsy that carried all three prints.
I’ve purchased from Bobbie Lou Fabrics before, and I found she had all three of the fabrics I wanted.
If you enjoy the cinnamon / amber / corduroy color that I’m seeing popping up in lots of places, you may enjoy these fabrics. There is lots of the cinnamon, mustard yellow, and pink, and it’s all accompanied by a soft creamy white.
I purchased the pink floral called Fields of Alsike in Pink. (Pictured below.)
I purchased a multicolor floral called Nature Walk in Yellowstone. (Pictured below.)
And I also purchased the dainty floral print with flowers from a variety of states. It’s lovely and called Roadside Wildflower in Cream. (Pictured below.)
Almost all my pillow covers for my Etsy Shop are patchwork and quilted. These are different. I made each of these prints into single panel pillow covers and listed them in my Etsy Shop. If you’re looking for coordinating pillows for any girl’s room, these would be a great option. They’re so sweet.
They’re all 18 inch pillow covers and work perfectly with the Ikea 20 inch down pillow forms. I believe their down pillow forms are currently $8.
As usual, I finished off each of these pillows with a metal zipper from Zipit on Etsy. I highly recommend them! I’ve purchased them many times, and I think they add an additional touch of character that I can’t do without anymore. You can see the metal zippers pictured below.
I haven’t made single panel pillow covers in a long time. Like I mentioned, almost all my pillow covers are made with three layers on the front. The layers and quilted and basted, and the pillow feels so plush and thick.
I’ll have to encourage my buyers to have an all white pillow form for these. I fear re-using another store bought pillow with any sort of print or anything could show through the fabric. That’s the biggest disadvantage I see of the single layer fabrics.
Like usual, I used French seams on the inside of the pillow to hide all the raw edges. I also feel like the additional seam puts my mind at ease about the outside seam ever splitting open from the pressure of the pillow form.
