Christmas presents did not fail this year. My mother-in-law, as always, chose a really great gift for me. My older cutting mat was losing its ability to self heal, and I was learning its small size was becoming a bit of an inconvenience.
I did a bit of looking around and found this one on Amazon. It folds in half, has non slip rubberized straps on bottom, and it’s 24 by 36 inches.
It’s my new favorite sewing supply.
Here’s a bit of a comparison to my last mat measuring 18 by 24 inches. This smaller mat worked great for almost ten years! My new mat will be much better for cutting my 18 inch backings for pillow covers.
You can see in the below picture the little ripple or line down the middle where the mat folds in half. It’s really convenient for storage.
Yes indeed, this is my new favorite sewing supply.

Yay! I have a 24″x 36″ mat but just need a bigger table for cutting! Don’t ditch the old one. I find they work great for art/craft projects using hot glue. Protects the table and peels right off!
Hi Kristin! Great advice! I hadn’t thought about the hot glue scenario. So smart! I am also considering setting up a little card table station downstairs where I can cut fabric when the boys play down there. I could use the old mat down there so I can move forward on projects while children are occupied. 🙂
