Those of you who share my love for quilting and sewing possibly share in my enjoyment of browsing fabric shops. I’ve bought fabric from a very wide variety of fabric shops these last couple years, but there are a few I continually go back to browse.
If we have similar tastes in fabric, you may enjoy these shops too.
What are my favorite shops to browse for modern and fun fabric?
I just recently found Liz’s shop. It’s small, but it carries lots of beauties. If you like sweet florals and fabrics that lend themselves to fussy cutting, check out this well curated Etsy Shop.
I browse this shop on an almost every day basis!
Her selection is small and changes often, but I thoroughly enjoy Morgan’s tastes and her beautifully curated small shop. I am so appreciative of the pictures she takes of the fabrics. I am always drawn to a shop that shows the fabrics well.
I’ve sewn straight lines my entire sewing career…until recently. I’ve tasted the joy of sewing homemade garments. Are you looking for French Terry for your comfiest t-shirts? I recommend www.knitfabric.com. I haven’t found another shop yet with as large a selection of French terry as I’ve found here.
Below you can see the dusty rose French Terry that I recently ordered from there.
Once again, Bonnie takes pictures of her fabrics! Her pictures plus the beautiful florals in her shop makes it a favorite of mine to browse.
For those of you looking for organic cotton fabrics, I highly recommend Theresa from Sew Organic Fabric. Her customer service has impressed me. I ordered some Charley Harper fabric (pictured below) on pre-order not too long ago. Her communication was excellent, and I felt she went out of her way to keep me informed when the fabric was coming and when it arrived.
Nathalie at Field and Cloth has a very specific vision. I think you could buy any five of her fabrics, and they’d always go together. Her colors are rich and creamy. You’ll find texture and depth and class in her shop.
Yet again, you’ll find PICTURES of the fabrics. Nathalie takes her own images of the fabrics, and they’re beautiful.
Kim at Kiwi Fabric has a wide range of fabrics. I’ve purchased from her a variety of times when I’m after a specific fabric that is getting harder to find. I recently purchased some yard died linen from her (pictured below.) Kim also stocks a large variety of Kona solids. If you are looking for solids, she is a great place to start.
Handmade is Heartmade is an Etsy Shop I’ve been purchasing from recently. They are HUGE and have a ton of fabrics. They have a variety of selections and fabrics to suit almost any tastes. I recently purchased the Warp and Weft Wovens (pictured below) from them.
Looking for a more fun and whimsical selection? Sojo Fabrics may be a good place to check out. Mary carries a wide variety of designers and styles. I’ve purchased from her multiple times, and I’m especially fond that she carries Heather Ross prints (pictured below.) 🙂
Mary and Shawn from Sunny Day Supply have a beautiful selection of Japanese fabrics. And do you know what comes along with Japanese fabrics? Fussy cutting.

They have one of the most inspiring Instagram feeds, and Mary has motivated me many times over to try hand quilting.

My local Quilt Shop
I also try to go regularly to my local quilt shop. The prices there are usually higher than I can find online, but I like having a local quilt shop, and I want them to survive. It’s hard to compete with the online world.
My husband often schedules our oil changes at a car dealership within walking distance of the local quilt shop. It works well. I take the car to get an oil change and browse the shop while I wait.
I shop Fabric.com when I need lots of yardage of fabric. If I’m looking for four to five yards of linen or solid backing, I often look to fabric.com. They almost always have the lowest prices on basics, and often times, the more yards you buys, the less they cost per yard. Considering I buy Kona white in five or six yards at one time, I tend to buy from there.
I don’t browse fabric.com often since it has such a huge selection of fabrics. I get overwhelmed, but when I know what I need, it’s a handy shop to have on my list.
Like I mentioned above, I have bought fabric at many places. There are SO MANY great fabric shops online, and so much beautiful fabric to choose from. The ones I mentioned above may be a great place to start, but it doesn’t take much to search around and find ones you like best.
If you find a fabric line you really like, type it into Etsy and you may find a number of shops that carry fabrics you like. By following a few of your favorite quilters on Instagram, you may learn where they shop too. The options are endless!
I’ve mentioned before that sometimes it’s easier for me to shop at smaller outlets. I find myself overwhelmed sifting through hundreds of fabric options. It’s been good for me to find a few smaller shops with owners that share similar tastes in fabric as me.
Where are some of your favorite places to shop for fabrics?
Hello Kelli, I am new to your site but find the information very helpful and enjoyable to read. So my question is probably a little crazy but – as I often tend to “enjoy the hunt” for fabrics that I see in pictures… can you tell me the name of the fabric (maybe where I might obtain?) that appears at the top of the photo block where it says “My Favorite Fabric Shops” – it is the floral print that looks to have an aqua-ish background with the peach and pink “roses”, green leaves, gold-ish leaves/accents… ? If it is still available anywhere…
Oh Cindy! I just saw this comment! I’m so sorry it’s been months since you asked. The fabric you see is called: Art Gallery – Open Road Collection by Bonnie Christine – Fields of Alsike in Pink. I do see it in a few places on Etsy. It looks like you could still purchase it if you want it. 🙂
The fabric looks great
🙂 Thanks!
Have you looked at https://www.fabricworm.com/
They have some beautiful fabric!
I just checked out their website, Gina! They indeed have some beautiful fabrics. I’ve never purchased from them, but I’ll have to give them a try.
