I’ll jump straight into the details on this one because it’s been a joy to sew again. It’s a simple one, my friends, but sometimes simple is ideal. I needed something easy this time.
The pattern is: Maggie Pearl by Penelope Handmade. It’s a FREE quilt pattern from Jennifer’s shop. There is no such thing as a ‘quick make’ for me, but it’s not complicated, and I needed something that was repetitive.
This one has been a couple months in the making, but some of my quilts have been years in the making. I think I’ll get this one finished by the end of the month. That’s fast for me.

The fabrics are a mix of Warp & Weft Heirloom and Heirloom by Alexia Marcelle Abegg. I believe BOTH of these lines have additional colorways out at this point.
The Warp & Weft line is a woven, and I’ve had a bit of an unexpected learning curve from the weave. After I started the quilt process, I ended up with lots of pulling and tugging of the fabric. I’ve definitely not run into this trouble ever since purchasing a new sewing machine a few years back (Juki TL-2010Q.)
I’ve spent the last week and a half picking out all the quilting because I was so disappointed in the pulling and shifting of fabric. I’m hoping that changing out the needle and using a walking foot this time will solve a few of those problems.

The entire time I pieced this quilt, I imaged a white and black grid print on the back. Even though their selection is quite limited, I do enjoy supporting my small local quilt shop, and I decided to use a Saturday morning to see if they had anything I’d like for the backing.
I utterly surprised myself coming home with this fabric, but I love it. I never would have chosen this had I just been searching online. It’s Floral Lace Roses in Parchment from the First Light line by Ruby Star Society. It’s a really pretty neutral.
I was also able to find it at the Fat Quarter Shop!

I also went with another fabric from the First Light line called Tiny Flowers in Melon. Yet again, I wouldn’t have likely chosen this had I been shopping online. I was so thankful to come home with something unexpected yet much better than I envisioned.
I stuck with my tried and true cotton batting. I’m always drawn to the Warm & Natural batting. I’ll love the drape of cotton batting under the cotton fabrics.

I will be back soon with the finished quilt…after I finish unpicking all the quilting!
