This season has reminded me that there will ALWAYS be fabric. New fabric. Gorgeous fabric. Pretty and beautiful fabric.
My creative juices must have been triggered recently. Maybe it’s because we’ve been staying home so much because of Covid. Maybe it’s because we finished up homeschooling for the summer, and I’m finding more freetime on my hands. Maybe it’s because I’m not pregnant and am feeling more energetic.
Either way, I’m wanting to sew ALL THE THINGS these days. My brain is churning with new ideas all the time. Thankfully sewing is something I can do in 20 minute increments. It’s easy for me to start and stop. And then start and stop again.
This should be a season of cleaning out the home as we prepare to move, but alas, my fabric shelves are an ever revolving door. They don’t fill up, but they are always changing as fabrics are used up and new ones purchased.
My precious three year old has been kindly requesting a quilt of his own from his mama. I made an economy block quilt for his oldest brother a few years ago. My second son has never received a quilt. (I’ll get to that soon.) I ordered all the fabric in this post for my third son’s quilt. I have the fabric for my daughter’s quilt. Since she’s only two months old, her’s can wait a bit.
All the fabrics so far in this post are from Heather Ross’ 20th Anniversary line, and you can find them in stores now. I’m going to these that plus some fabric from her other lines to sew a Checkered Garden Quilt for my 3 year old.
I adore some of her fabrics. They are fun and whimsical and somewhat childish.
The fabrics are, not surprisingly, selling out FAST at stores, but I’m positive stores will continue restocking as they’re able.
I didn’t order all the prints from her line. I only ordered my favorites.
The fabrics pictured above are all from her recently released 20th anniversary line. The other prints below are from other lines. Some I already had, and some I just purchased along with these.
I ordered most of mine from Modern Violet on Etsy. She has a store almost entirely dedicated to Heather Ross.
I purchased a few others from Heartland Quilt Shop. I have some sailboats and frogs coming from them.
I’m also keeping my eye on Sassy and Chic Fabrics to see what Heather Ross fabrics they have in stock.
I plan on pairing these fabrics with lots of solids. I’ll add lots of blues and greens and yellows and reds. I don’t plan on using a lot of the pink in my son’s quilt, but I will use a bit since he likes it. π
All the fabrics below are from recent but previous Heather Ross lines. I purchased them all from Modern Violet on Etsy.
I love a scrappy quilt, and I think I have enough variety here from some good and rich scrappiness. I purchased half yards or whole yards of all of these fabrics. I rarely purchase a whole yard of anything…unless it’s for the backing.
I bought a little extra this time with the plans of making my nephews a quilt for them to share. Maybe I’ll have it done when all their birthdays roll around in November and December.
If I have any left…after all these quilts are done three years later π … I’ll use the rest of the fabric from pillows for my shop. Can you imagine some hand quilted triangle pillows with these fabrics?
I’ve been motivated lately, though. So maybe all my current quilting dreams and aspirations will get finished sooner than I expect. π
