I’ve been working with the newly released Art Gallery Fabric’s Pure Element line! This is an all solids line, and they are gorgeous colors. I’m making my first ever all solids quilt. It’s stretching my creative capacities, and I’ve learned a lot in the process.
You can see the bundle I received up above. No surprise to see the yellows, pinks, blues, and whites. There just aren’t many surprises to my favorite sewing colors. 🙂 I’m branching out bits here and there, but these are my comfort colors.
I listed all the colors above. Out of the colors that I ordered, my favorites are Grapefruit pink and the Turmeric yellow. The Grapefruit is the perfect peachy pink, and the Turmeric is the best mustard yellow I’ve found yet.
So far, the Fat Quarter Shop is the place I’ve found that is stocking the most colors in one place.
Here are a few other shops I found on Etsy that carry a limited selection of the colors:
Bobble Lou Fabrics
Stitched Chic
Southern Stitch Fabric
You can see all of their new colors HERE.
So you know how I enjoy scrappy patchwork? I enjoy a variety of fabrics and designers all lumped into one quilt. I don’t necessarily enjoy sewing with fabrics all from the same line. I like a bit of mismatched colors, unexpected combinations, and different shades of the same color.
It’s very different sewing with solids. The fabrics are still the defining factor of the quilts, but using solids makes the geometry in the quilt so much more prominent. Do you know what I mean? Solids are great to use when you have a quilt pattern you want to feature.
Brittany, from Lo and Behold Stitchery, is a great one to browse for all solid quilt inspiration.
Red Pepper Quilts is excellent inspiration for a much scrappier look.
Who are some of my favorites who create with a bit of both? I’ve recently discovered Susan from Hopewood Home, and I love her work. I’ve followed Nathalie for a long while from Field and Cloth. I’m avidly sewing through the fabric I have on my shelves so I have a valid excuse to empty her shop out. Her taste is impeccable.
I’ll be back soon with this finished quilt top!
