This fabric is so fun. Everything about it is colorful and cheerful and definitely Brady Bunch inspired. The green gingham in here makes me think of Alice.
For those of you who haven’t seen the last two posts on my blog, this fabric was designed by one of the Brandy Bunch girls. It’s reminiscent of their old TV show. While you don’t find fabric like this gracing the couch in my living room, I just couldn’t pass it up. I love it. It’s called A Blooming Bunch Fabric.
A loyal customer contacted me and requested a quilt. I couldn’t pass it up.
This is just a throw sized quilt, and it was a joy to put together. I cut all the fabric into five inch strips. Then I sewed two or three strips of fabric together. After pressing the seams open, I then cut the combined strips down into three five inch squares. Does that makes sense? It’s a short cut of sorts.
I use a variety of techniques for ensuring the quilt is balanced and colors are dispersed evenly. Sometimes I’ll sew the blocks into rows and then arrange the rows. Sometimes I’ll sew all the squares into nine patch blocks and then arrange them.
This quilt in particular was ten blocks by fifteen blocks. I ended up sewing the blocks into five block rows and then rearranging everything on the floor until all the colors and patterns looked balanced.
Thankfully I had some leftover backing from my triangle pillows. I also had a vintage sheet in my collection that I thought coordinated awfully well. The backing is pieced, and all my favorite backings are pieced. They seem more homemade. You know? It’s all the leftover fabric back there. It comes with a little bit of a surprise.
That blue / teal floral was a my favorite from the whole line.
Sometimes custom orders are such a blessing and a boost. I love making quilts, but I often leave them a bit unfinished. Finishing an entire quilt from start to finish in just a week or two is a good reminder for me. I can push through when I want and get that binding hand stitched on to finish the quilt.
