These are done early you guys! I was quite enamored last night when my five year old was so excited to see all three. This boy loves the Christmas decorations up in our home, and he was smitten when we were able to hang stockings for ALL three boys on the mantel. It was adorable.
The fabrics for these projects were all taken from the Noel line by Cotton and Steel. The black thread is Valdani Pearl thread in size 8.
I started these stockings last year when Mary and Shawn from Sunny Day Supply hosted a sew along. Mary is also the inspiration behind the black hand quilting on these.
On second thought, considering I started them last year with a goal of having them done for last Christmas, maybe I’m finishing them late. Not sure.
They were a joy to finish.
The last steps of actually sewing the stocking and the liner together took every bit of brain power for me, but Mary has a really great and simple tutorial on her blog. I LOVE the fabric combinations and hand quilting and the actual creating part. Following directions is not as enjoyable for me.
But finishing is one of the greatest joys in the creative process, and I’m glad they’re done.
The diamond stocking above was the one I finished last year. I English paper pieced the entire stocking. I also created some free diamond templates if you’re interested in using them.
The stocking just above is the last one I just finished. I made it with rectangles measuring 1 3/4 of an inch by 3 inches tall. I did spend some additional time fussy cutting even though I strip pieced a lot of the stocking.
And here’s the triangle stocking. I used my simple method of piecing triangles.
Mary has a variety of stocking templates on her blog or you can create your own.
The backs of each stocking are a solid coordinating fabric. I used Christmas sweaters on one, snowmen on the middle one, and paper airplanes on the one for my youngest.
You still have time to create a bit of handmade for Christmas! 🙂
